After just 1 year, the time has come to visit Cajon Pass and our friends from Hill 582 again. I did not only meet my friends and photographers of Hill 582 (Don, Gary and Marc) but also Jerry Shinar (hilltender of WSI), Keith Schreiber, Ron Davidson and Chuck Donaldson. Chuck is also having a great web site with fantastic photos: http://somewherewest.com/
This time, I took photos (5550) from these locations: Summit, Silverwood, WSI, Hill 582, Alray (former Tunnel area), Noisy Point, Davis Ranch Road, Mormon Rocks, Stein's Hill, around Highway 138, Sullivan's Curve, Cajon Station, old Route 66 (Cajon Blvd.), Swarthout Canyon Road, Blue Cut and finally Palm Ave. Crossing. As I went to several overlooks high above, I was trying to take photos from far away. Not every photo was good because of the long distance, haze and the heavy wind.
Please note: As a train does not only exist of the locos but all the cars, I made plenty photos of the different cars (incl. graffiti). In other words, I do not only show the best pictures, but most I made to show how a train is passing the site (almost like a movie).

Noisy Point / I-15 Overlook / Alray

On June 24, Don Toles and I had two visitors --- Chuck Donaldson (Portland, OR) and Werner Meer (Switzerland). We had a great time and Don topped himself by introducing us to a new (to us) place that he named "Noisy Point". Noisy Point (NP) is just BNSF RR West of Interstate 15 and above the UP and BNSF CP Walker. From NP, we can see Cajon Summit AND almost to Sullivan's curve - no trains can sneak up upon you. The only drawback is the NOISE from I-15 --- and therefore, the NP name. Photo 1145: This map shows how we normally access NP via USFS 3N53.
CAUTION --- USFS 3N53 shares the tunnel under I-15 with the UP/SP tracks. Clearance is tight and so a close check of the signals and a visual check are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Access to USFS 3N53 may also be gained via Hwy 138W and Davis Ranch Road. (Gary G. Gray)

Noisy Point is a great overlook not only for trains, but for cars and trucks as well. Do not forget, many trucks are having trailers which we can see on railroad flat cars for TOFC (Piggy Back Service). Therefore, I took lots of photos to fill the time between the trains. Sorry about that, but for me, American vehicles are faszinating. At home in Switzerland, I drive American cars all my life. (Werner Meer) We have 154 photos of this location.

between Mormon Rocks and Davis Ranch Road

Afterwards, Don Toles was leading me along the UP service road to a location between Davis Ranch Road and Mormon Rocks. There is a small hill between UPT and BNSF tracks. It is more or less the place seen on photo 2302 of Train 1 where the engines are. As usual, I took many photos in a row, almost like a movie. After a BNSF EB, we left. But I went back on another day. Our next location was above Blue Cut. Don showed me another "new" loaction and we drove on the UP service road from the Mormon Rocks, passed Sullivans Curve and Swarthout Canyon Road to reach UP MP 475 just above Blue Cut. Of course, this location can easy be reached from Swarthout Canyon Road.
We do have a great overview of the UP Palmdale-Colton Cutoff track and BNSF Main 1, Main 2 and Main 3 from above. (We show a total of 81 photos).
